Description
The IAG Performance Adjustable Timing Idler Kit is designed specifically for Subaru EJ20 and EJ25 engines where changes in long block length have occurred. Resurfacing cylinder heads or decking the block effectively shortens the engine assembly, while thicker head gaskets increase overall length. In both cases, cam timing can be shifted due to the fixed length of the timing belt. These adjustable idlers allow precise correction of cam timing, compensating for these dimensional changes and ensuring optimal engine performance. Proper cam alignment is strongly recommended for any performance-built Subaru engine.
Each idler is precision CNC-machined and hand assembled in-house to meet strict OEM tolerances. A machined 10mm hex feature allows the idler to be held securely in place with a socket while fine adjustments are made. Each unit is engraved with the IAG logo, reflecting its quality and in-house craftsmanship.
How the system works:
- Idler #1 (upper idler) adjusts cam timing for the right-side (passenger side) intake and exhaust camshafts.
- Idler #2 (lower idler) adjusts cam timing for the left-side (driver side) intake and exhaust camshafts.
Includes:
- (x2) OEM Quality Idlers with CNC machined Eccentrics (Single roller bearing design)
- (x2) M10 Zinc Plated Bolts
Install Warning & Maintenance:
- A professional install by facilities well versed with Subaru engine builds is highly recommended.
- At no point in time should these idlers ever be maxed out and used as a means to suffice a poor quality block/heads that have been machined down too far. The idlers should never be used for timing components that are more than 1 tooth out of alignment. A motor that is off by more than 1 tooth has other underlying issues.
- Inspection of threaded areas that the old idlers came off from is essential. Catastrophic failure can result from performing this job improperly.
- Street cars should replace every 60k miles!
- Race/Track cars should replace yearly and/or each engine teardown
